Overview

Oscar is a probabilistic-intelligence tutor that meets students where they are and guides them toward grade-level standards through individualized, conversational learning. Its content is mapped to the standards most widely adopted in California and New York K–12 public schools.

1. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) — Mathematics and English Language Arts

Oscar's mathematics tutoring is mapped to the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice and to grade-level domains from Kindergarten through Algebra II. Its ELA tutoring is mapped to the Reading (Literature and Informational Text), Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language strands, K–12.

Coverage by domain includes, without limitation:

  • Mathematics: Counting and Cardinality (K); Operations and Algebraic Thinking (K–5); Number and Operations in Base Ten (K–5); Number and Operations — Fractions (3–5); Measurement and Data (K–5); Geometry (K–HS); Ratios and Proportional Relationships (6–7); The Number System (6–8); Expressions and Equations (6–8); Functions (8); Statistics and Probability (6–HS); Number and Quantity (HS); Algebra (HS); Modeling (HS).
  • ELA: Key Ideas and Details; Craft and Structure; Integration of Knowledge and Ideas; Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity; Text Types and Purposes; Production and Distribution of Writing; Research to Build and Present Knowledge; Conventions of Standard English; Knowledge of Language; Vocabulary Acquisition and Use.

2. California Content Standards and CA ELD Standards

For California LEAs, Oscar's content is aligned to the California Content Standards (which adopt the CCSS) and to the California English Language Development (CA ELD) Standards across the three Parts (Interacting in Meaningful Ways; Learning About How English Works; Using Foundational Literacy Skills) and four Proficiency Levels (Emerging, Expanding, Bridging). Oscar's bilingual scaffolding supports Designated and Integrated ELD instruction.

3. New York State Next Generation Learning Standards

For New York LEAs, Oscar is aligned to the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for Mathematics and ELA (adopted 2017, effective 2020–21), and to the NYS Bilingual Common Core Initiative (Home Language Arts and Native Language Arts progressions). Supports for Multilingual Learners (MLLs) are aligned to NYSESLAT and to the NYS Blueprint for English Language Learner Success.

4. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)

Oscar's science tutoring follows the three-dimensional NGSS framework: Disciplinary Core Ideas (Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Earth and Space Sciences, Engineering Design); Science and Engineering Practices; Crosscutting Concepts. New York has adopted the NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards, which closely follow NGSS; alignment is maintained for both.

5. WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework, 2020 Edition

Oscar's English-language scaffolding is mapped to the four WIDA ELD Standards (Social and Instructional Language; Language of Language Arts; Language of Mathematics; Language of Science; Language of Social Studies) and to the six proficiency levels (Entering, Emerging, Developing, Expanding, Bridging, Reaching).

6. CASEL Framework for Social and Emotional Learning

Oscar's mood check-in and bonded conversational model align to the five core CASEL competencies:

  • Self-Awareness: emoji mood check-in invites students to name and recognize their feelings.
  • Self-Management: Oscar gently coaches focus, persistence, and stress regulation.
  • Social Awareness: conversation models empathy and respect.
  • Relationship Skills: the bonded experience offers a safe, consistent relationship.
  • Responsible Decision-Making: guided reasoning and consequence-modeling in conversation.

7. ISTE Standards for Students (2016)

Oscar develops the seven ISTE Student Standards through everyday use:

  • 1. Empowered Learner
  • 2. Digital Citizen
  • 3. Knowledge Constructor
  • 4. Innovative Designer
  • 5. Computational Thinker
  • 6. Creative Communicator
  • 7. Global Collaborator

8. ESSA Evidence Tier

Oscar's design is grounded in published research on adaptive tutoring, the testing effect, retrieval practice, dual coding, and growth-mindset feedback. The Provider currently presents an ESSA Tier 4 (Demonstrates a Rationale) evidence base and is actively partnering with university researchers to move toward Tier 3 (Promising Evidence) through correlational studies during the 2026–2027 school year.

9. Crosswalk Documents

Detailed standards-to-Oscar-content crosswalks for each standard set above are maintained as living documents and available to LEAs upon request to schools@evrica.ai.
